What We Do

The Manitoba Accessibility Office is your first point of contact for all inquiries about accessibility legislation in our province.

The Manitoba Accessibility Office is responsible for public education activities and increasing awareness of The Accessibility for Manitobans Act. It ensures that Manitoba businesses, non-profits and public sector organizations have access to information, training, tools and resources to be informed about current accessibility legislations and standards.

The Accessibility Compliance Secretariat is responsible for overseeing the compliance of The Accessibility for Manitobans Act.

The Manitoba Accessibility Office does:

  • acts as the administrative arm of The Accessibility for Manitobans Act
  • acts as a secretary to the Accessibility Advisory Council and its committees
  • develops resources and tools to promote The Accessibility for Manitobans Act
  • helps increase public awareness about The Accessibility for Manitobans Act and accessibility standards
  • offers training and education opportunities on The Accessibility for Manitobans Act and standards
  • responds to general questions about The Accessibility for Manitobans Act and accessibility standards

The Manitoba Accessibility Office does not:

  • monitor the compliance of organizations with The Accessibility for Manitobans Act - this is done by the Accessibility Compliance Secretariat
  • provide compliance-related support to organizations, including helping to create or update accessibility plans and accessibility policies - this is done by the Accessibility Compliance Secretariat
  • answer questions regarding requirements under the legislation - this is done by The Accessibility Compliance Secretariat
  • issue Compliance Notices to organizations - this is done by The Accessibility Compliance Secretariat
  • respond to questions about Employment and Income Assistance (provincial program), Employment Insurance, Canada Pension Plan Disability, or the Disability Tax Credit (federal programs)
  • provide detailed information about housing for people with disabilities
  • provide detailed information about disability respite services or funding
  • provide funding for upgrades related to physical accessibility, new builds, or home renovations.
  • provide disability services
  • take complaints about accessibility services, or lack thereof
  • act as a liaison for human rights complaints
  • respond to questions about the Manitoba Building Code
