Improving Accessibility in the Workplace

Share your Experiences with Manitoba’s Accessible Employment Standard Regulation
The Manitoba government recently launched an engagement on the Accessible Employment Standard Regulation. This standard, under the Accessibility for Manitobans Act, was first enacted on May 1, 2019, and builds on existing requirements of the Manitoba Human Rights Code. The Accessible Employment Standard Regulation applies to paid employees who are full-time, part-time, apprentices and seasonal workers. It addresses practices relating to employee-employer relationships, including measures and policies related to the recruitment, hiring and retention of employees. All organizations within Manitoba must meet the requirements outlined under the standard.
Each standard enacted under the Accessibility for Manitobans Act must be reviewed every five years to ensure standards continue to meet the needs of all Manitobans. The government-appointed Accessibility Advisory Council is leading this review and wants to hear from you about your experiences with the Accessible Employment Standard.
- Do you face barriers to finding or keeping a job?
- Do you know how to best accommodate your employees with disabilities?
- How does this standard affect you and your workplace?
The review will assess if the standard is meeting its objectives to remove barriers to employment, and if not, how could it be improved. Lessons learned from this review will help strengthen the Accessible Employment Standard Regulation.
