The Accessibility Action Plan tracker has been updated to reflect the quarterly progress. This action plan tracks the province’s progress toward actioning the recommendations presented in the Five-Year Review of The Accessibility for Manitobans Act: 2023. Significant progress has already been made in implementing many of the recommendations from the review, with over 75 per cent of the recommendations marked as either completed or underway. Manitoba’s Accessibility Action Plan will continue to be updated quarterly to keep Manitobans informed on the progress. |

Accessible Recruitment and Onboarding: What to Know |
As a prospective or new employee in Manitoba, do you know about reasonable accommodation requirements for persons with disabilities under the Accessible Employment Standard Regulation? This regulation came into force for Manitoba employers in all sectors on May 1, 2022. |
Section 5 of the Accessible Employment Standard Regulation requires that organizations offer reasonable accommodations when recruiting new employees. Section 6 requires that employers inform applicants about workplace accommodation policies and practices when making an offer of employment. |
Large employers, with 50 or more employees, are required to write down their accessible employment policies. You can ask to see a large employer’s accessible employment policy to find out how they accommodate employees with disabilities. If you are a person disabled by barriers, the regulation also states that you may request the policy information in an alternate format. |
Organizations are required to facilitate reasonable workplace accommodations by: |
telling potential job applicants of the availability of reasonable accommodations for persons disabled by barriers during the assessment or selection process. responding to accommodation requests in the assessment or selection process by consulting with the applicant and providing reasonable accommodations. informing the selected applicants of the organization’s policies and practices for workplace accommodations.
Remember: Although organizations with fewer than 50 employees are not required to write down their accessible employment policies, those with at least one employee in Manitoba are still required to follow the regulation’s requirements and provide reasonable accommodations to employees or prospective employees who are temporarily or permanently disabled by barriers. |
